Quick answer…YES, BIOTECH CROPS ARE AS NUTRITIOUS OR MORE NUTRITIOUS. Here’s my story and some data.

Misinformation in agriculture is rampant, and even ag businesses are mistakenly contributing to the problem. A few weeks ago, I got an e-mail from an ag business, and toward the bottom of the e-mail, this is what was included.

“Nutritionally, GMO crops are almost identical to conventional crops but there are some deficiencies of very important minerals. Recently a study revealed these findings:

  • GMO Corn has 14 ppm of Calcium; NON GMO corn has 6130 ppm: 437 times more.
  • GMO corn has 2 ppm of Magnesium; NON GMO corn has 113ppm: 56 times more.
  • GMO corn has 2 ppm of Manganese; NON GMO corn has 14ppm: 7 times more.”

The mainstream media likes to portray technology as harmful, dangerous, and driven by greedy companies with no regard for the long-term future of our country and our citizens. It’s sad this type of thing occurs, but let’s talk about the real facts. As soon as I read the statistical nonsense above, I knew we had to do our own study because this one sure sounded fishy. What we did is pulled corn from three different grain bins on our farm, all containing biotech corn. We then went to two other farmers to test their non-biotech corn.

When we tested three different samples of biotech corn vs. three different samples of non-biotech corn, the biotech corn actually had the most nutrients. See the data in the chart below.

Additionally, the biotech corn had 22% more nitrogen, 27% more phosphorus, 15% more potassium, and 13% more sulfur. That’s right. Lots of people have been lying to you, trying to make you think that biotech corn is bad for our livestock, and ultimately bad for our country.
