Ag PhD Scouting & Scholarships
Saturday, June 29th | 9:30am – 3pm
This event is geared toward high school and college students, as well as any farmers under 30 years old, but anyone with a desire to learn more about agronomy is welcome to attend.
Plus, we will be awarding 100+ college scholarships to attendees that will be enrolled in any post-secondary school in the fall.
In-field breakout sessions will provide hands-on education, including the following topics:
- How to pull a soil sample
- Using root pits to understand soil health, compaction, crop root growth and development, and more
- How to pull plant tissue tests and interpret the data to improve crop health
- Soil and crop health benefits of drainage tile
- The impacts of using natural soil microbes in production agriculture
- Fertilizer use and recommendations
- Pesticide safety
- Carbon credits
- Saving for retirement
We will also provide a guide to effective field scouting, including:
- Staging crops, plant growth and development
- How to determine planting depth
- What you can learn by digging up plant roots
- Weed, insect, and disease identification
- How to compare and evaluate seed variety performance
